Halloween Pictures

Halloween Parade

Happy Halloween

We had a GREAT day!
Thanks to all who sent treats - the children really enjoyed them.
Thanks to parents who posed for pictures with their children.
Don't forget to thank our crossing guard the next time you see him - he gave every child a treat and works hard to keep the children safe as the cross the street.
If you missed the parade here are some pictures. They won't all fit in one post so please look at the others too.

Brain Breaks

Has your child told you about brain breaks yet? Brain breaks are short childrens' videos, often with music, that the children move along with the characters on the screen. These breaks give first graders a chance to get their wiggles out. They also help us with our listening and following directions skills. You can find brain breaks to do at home by doing a search for them on YouTube. This is how they look in our classroom.

Each class decorated a pumpkin. Here they are ...

Guest Reader

On Friday one of our boy's older sister came down from her fourth grade classroom and read Green Eggs And Ham to us. She was wonderful! After reading the story she even stayed and answered our questions about the story. Here are some pictures.

Safe Touches

We were happy to meet Miss Sara from the Crime Victim's Council today. She taught us about staying safe from strangers and about good and bad touches. We sorted different touches - a high five, a hug, a kick into Happy, Confusing, or Sad Touch Circles.

Then she read us a story called My Body Belongs To Me. She taught us that our private parts are not for sharing.

She said if someone touches us in a way that hurts or makes us feel bad the we should say, "no!" Then go to a safe place, and last tell an adult we trust.

Thank you Miss Sara for helping us stay safe.

Mammals

Yesterday, Miss Christine, our naturalist from Wildlands Conservancy came to visit us again. She taught us about mammals. We know mammals are born alive, drink their mother's milk, breathe through lungs, have backbones, are warm-blooded, and have fur or hair. First she passed around fur and a mammal bone for us to feel.

Then she read us a funny story.

After the story she showed us what happens if you mix baking soda and vinegar.

Finally we each got to pet our mammal visitor, an opossum. Her fur was very soft and her tail quite interesting.

We can't wait till she comes back next month!
